Hello! Hola! Salut! Oi!
You’re probably wondering why I started writing gibberish after saying “Hello!” but it isn’t. I speak Spanish, French, and Brazilian Portuguese.
My name is Gloria (my middle name is Abril but I go for both) and I’m an aspired polyglot that wishes to travel the world. I’m 17 years old which I’m an upcoming senior. I was raised in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico but due to family difficulties I had to move to the USA and live with my mom. While young, I had the opportunity to meet many people from different ethnicities, religions, economic backgrounds in which I became motivated into wanting to find out why these people practiced their beliefs or why they were in a poor situation. I would start to compare both worlds that yet were so close.
I felt like I always wanted to help people in need but in order to help, a light switch turned ‘on’ in my brain asking “If I would want to go to (a place), how would you communicate?” This is how I came to think that people’s cultures and traditions were essential in order to establish our own identity as well as the importance of learning a new language.
Since I was young, I would take road trips with my dad’s family and go camping in Baja’s prestigious beaches. We would pass by the Sonoran desert and see a falcon preying on a snake or a single cactus next to Hernan Cortes’ conquered land. From my trips to Mexico, I would learn what would take to be grateful and humble. I’ve been to different places but stay tune for more by checking out my blog. 🙂
See you guys later!
